Factors Affecting Shipbuilding
Most players think they can walk into any port and just order up any type of ship and most GMs probably let it happen. However, this is not the way
shipbuilding happens in fact and it shouldn't in fiction either. Instead it’s an excellent role-playing opportunity for the GM and the
players if they act on it. The PCs see a Karune in the port of Cherafir and decide they would like to have one built. Upon approaching the local
shipwright they discover he doesn't know how to build one and that as far as he knows they would have to travel to Trierzon to get one made. Now
they must decide if they make the trip or try and steal the one in port. Of course they could be talked into a Dak by the shipwright, who can build them.
The linked sections all have an effect on shipbuilding within western Lýthia. These factors can determine the types of vessels a port’s
shipyard can build, how large of vessels they may be capable of building; and if they have the expertise or ability to build any of the advanced ship
designs found in western Lýthia.
