Generating a Village

HârnManor

Generating a Village Using HârnManor

You need the following materials for this process

  • Village Census Form (VCF), you can find these online at Lýthia.com
  • Manor Budget Form (MBF), you can find these online at Lýthia.com
  • Pencil and scratch paper
  • Dice (1d6 x 3, 1d10, 1d20 x 2)
  • Calculator if you need one

Generate the first three cells of general data for the Manor Budget Form

In this phase you generate and enter basic data for this manor, it will be need through out the process of building your manor.

Gross Acres
If you did the Gathering Manor Data section first, then enter the manor's gross acres in the appropriate area. Otherwise, go back and do the Gathering Manor Data section.

Woods Acres
You could enter the average of 20% or use this formula: (1d10+15)% of Gross Acres.

Cleared Acres
Cleared Acres = Gross Acres - Woods Acres

Determine the number of households in the village

If you used an existing manor and know the number of households, then enter that number on the VCF. Id you have no data available for this manor, then use the following formula.

Households
Tenant Households = Cleared Acres / 40 * Land Quality (LQ), enter under households on the VCF

Generate your households using HârnManor

At this time you must use the rule set to generate the following for each tenant.

  • Tenant Mastery Level (ML): (3d6 x 5) + 25, enter under ML on the VCF
  • Class of tenant using the Tenant Class table, enter under ML on the VCF
  • Tenant acres using the Tenant Class table, enter under ML on the VCF
  • Generate household size using the class results and the appropriate formula on Manor 9, enter under ML on the VCF
  • Determine tenant obligations using Manor 10 for each household, enter under ML on the VCF
  • Using Manor 11, determine the occupation and fees for the generated craftsmen; pay attention to the notes under the Craftsman Occupation table, enter under ML on the VCF
  • Using Manor 12, determine if you need any Yeomen and use this page to make the appropriate changes, enter under ML on the VCF
  • Using Manor 13, assign manorial officers and make the appropriate changes, enter under ML on the VCF
(I really don't like the idea of a yeoman being the Beadle, for one he is a freeman and the other is his duties are military in nature, not law enforcement)
  • Using Manor 14, determine if a Priest is need and which household's data will be changed to reflect one being present, enter under ML on the VCF

You are now down with the village generation, total up the acres, labor, rents, and fee columns for later use.

Finishing the general data for the Manor Budget Form

Tenant Acres
This is the total of all acres held by the tenants from the VCF

Demesne Acres
Demesne Acres = Cleared Acres - Tenant Acres

Labor Pool
Labor Pool = Households x 500 days
