Generating the Lord's Budget Using HârnManor

You need the following materials for this process

• Manor Budget Form (MBF), you can find these online at Lýthia.com
• Pencil and scratch paper
• Dice (1d6 x 5, 1d10, 1d20 x 2)
• Calculator if you need one

Manorial Income

• Demesne Income = Fief Income x Demesne Acres / Cleared Acres
• Tenant Rents and Fees (this is the total of all rents and fees from the VCF
• Glebe Revenue (if there is a priest then it is equal to ((Glebe Acres x 60) + (Tenant Acres x 5)) / 50
• Taxes and Tolls = 3d6 x 240 x TI
• Amercements = Tenant Households x 1d6 x 10
• Feudal Income (if this manor has a subordinate manor, then add its feudal payments to this manor here)
  • From a vassal: 1d3 x Gross Acres, if no military service given add an additional 2 x Gross Acres for scutage, or if you have a completed budget for that manor just enter its feudal payments
  • From a bailiff: 12 x Gross Acres or if you have a completed budget for that manor just enter 1/3 of its Gross Income as a feudal payment
• Total Income: add all of the above

Manorial Expenses

• Household: enter the total amount of support for the lord's household
• Feudal Payments (if this manor is subordinate to another manor, then its feudal payments are one of those listed below)
  • A vassal: 1d3 x Gross Acres, if no military service given add an additional 2 x Gross Acres for scutage
  • A bailiff: 1/3 of Gross Income as a feudal payment
• Tithe - 10% of total income above
• Labor Hired = Demesne Acres x 8 - Labor Obligation
• Political Expenses = Gross Acres x 1 to keep your lands
• Total Expenses: add all of the expenses listed here

The Privy Purse

Your initial privy purse is equal to 10% of Total Income

Finishing Up

You have now completed the Lord's budget

If the expenses are more than the income you have to do one of the following

• Borrow the money to make up the difference
• Use your privy purse to make up the difference
• Raise your rent to your tenants
• Reduce your household budget

If the expenses are more than the income you are doing okay and you can do one if two things with the excess

• Since prestige in Harnic society is not how much you have saved, but how much you spend, you can one of the following
• Pour it into Political Expenses (change political by adding the excess to it)
• Or you can increase your household staff (just add some help to the staff until the additional support is equal to or less than the excess)
• Take any excess and convert it to silver and place it into your purse
  
  For this initial setup of the manor the exchange from kind to silver or silver to kind is 1:1
• Or you can put some into political expenses and the rest into the privy purse
