You need the following materials for this process

Generating the Fief's Budget

In this phase you generate a fief's budget using any of the four spreadsheet. Follow these simple instructions, the instructions are also on the sheet for generating a fief's budget.

Step 1
Seed is 12d per acre; change it to a higher rate to account for possible shortages from vermin or spoilage, then generate your fief's initial budget by pushing the 'Fief Budget' button

Step 2
Look at line labeled 'Excess Labor,' if it is negative you do not have enough labor to support what you have budgeted. You need to adjust one of the following downwards in order to balance your labor costs.
  • Since this is your initial or starting budget for this manor you could go back to the VCF and change the amount of labor owed by your tenants. To do that, follow these steps.
    • Click the 'Generating a Village'' tab
    • On the right side of the screen locate the label for labor and enter a '1' in place of the 'o' for 5 days
    • Then click on the 'Labor/Rent/Fees Update'' button
    • Go back to the 'Initial Basic Fief Budget' tab
    • Press the 'Clear Budget' button
    • Redo Step 1; if it does not fix the labor overage, try another option listed under Step 2
    • If you don't want to keep the higher labor obligation, repeat this option and replace the '1' you entered with a '0'
  • You can reduce the number of acres devoted to crops or pasture, to do this follow these steps
    • Click in the space for crop or pasture acres and enter a lower amount
    • Then click on the 'Update Budget' button
    • If you still have an overage, continue reducing acreage or try another option below
  • You can reduce the amount applied to Fief Maintenance and take a loss of FI
    • Under the % sign, beside the label Fief Maintenance, enter the amount to be dedicated to FI under 1.00 in 20% increments (e.g. .80, .60, .40, .20
    • Then click on the 'Update Budget' button
    • Next to Adjusted Fief Index will appear your new FI for the coming year
    • If you still have an overage, continue reducing the percentage or try another option below
  • You can reduce the amount of assart below the minimum listed
    • Enter a number less than shown in the acres column for Assart
    • Then click on the 'Update Budget' button
    • Next to Adjusted Wood and Adjusted Cleared will appear your new acres for each for the coming year
    • If you still have an overage, continue reducing acreage or repeat something above
