Generating the Fief's Budget Using HârnManor

You need the following materials for this process

  • Manor Budget Form (MBF), you can find these online at Lýthia.com
  • Pencil and scratch paper
  • Dice (1d6 x 5, 1d10, 1d20 x 2)
  • Calculator if you need one

Filling in the 'General Data' of the MBF

Using your notes from the collecting data page and the totals from you VCF fill in the following information under the 'General Data' section of the MBF.

  • Topography
  • Gross Acres
  • Woods Acres
  • Cleared Acres = Gross Acres - Woods Acres
  • Tenant Acres (the total of all acres held by tenants on the VCF)
  • Demesne Acres = Cleared Acres - Tenant Acres
  • Labor Pool = Tenant Households (from the VCF) * 500
  • Labor Obligation (the total of all labor owed by tenants on the VCF)
  • Land Quality (LQ)
  • Fief Index (use the table on Manor 16 to generate a Fief Index (FI) for the manor)
  • Trade Index (Use the table on Manor 16 to generate a Trade Index (TI) for the manor)
  • Weather Index (Use the table on Manor 23 to generate a Weather Index (WI) for the manor)

Harvest Data

Woods Data

  • Yield = (18 * LQ * FI * WI)d
  • Acres
  • Labor = (acres * 3) days
  • Kind = (acres * yield)d, round to nearest .25d

Crops Data

  • Yield = (60 * LQ * FI * WI)d
  • Acres
  • Labor = (acres * 6) days
  • Kind = (acres * yield)d, round to nearest .25d

Pasture Data

  • Yield = (90 * LQ * FI * WI)d
  • Acres
  • Labor = (acres * 10) days
  • Kind = (acres * yield)d, round to nearest .25d

Waste Data

  • Acres not being used for woods, crops, or pasture (unused land basically)

At this point you total up the Labor and Kind columns to get your total harvest

Manor Maintenance Data

Crop Seed

  • Acres (crop acres to be planted the coming year)
  • Kind = (acres * 12)d in seed, this can be increased if you want to fight possible shortages - see Manor 24, 'Seed Storage and Loss'

Winter Feed

  • Acres (acres to be dedicated to pasture the coming year)
  • Kind = (acres * 12)d in feed

Fief Maintenance

  • Acres = cleared acres
  • Labor = (cleared acres * FI * 3) days
  • Kind = (cleared acres * FI * 6)d

    • Use the table on Manor 24 to see how to improve FI or what happens if the minimum resources are not expended

    Keep in mind, you subtract the seed, feed, and maintenance from the harvest Kind and add the assart to that result

    Also, you add maintenance and assart labor to the harvest labor

You have now completed the Fief Budget and its time to do the Lord's Budget.
