The Laranian Fighting Orders of Hârn
-
Order of the Lady of Paladins
-
The fighting order sponsored by the order of the Spear of Shattered Sorrow. Its original patron was King Poleryn who founded the order in
575. Its founding was partly in response to the bloody turmoil that was then occurring in western Hârn. The Lady of Paladins hold the
keeps of Chundras and Fosumo in Melderyn. For the last twenty years the order has been acting with greater and greater autonomy and not
always in the "ideal" spirit of the faith. Knights of the order are currently engaged in the subjugation of Solora and
"crusading" patrols are often found there. There have been disturbing reports of the order's activities against the Solori
tribesmen bringing concern to both the Hârnic primate and the pontiff. However, to date no effective action has been taken against the
order. The Chabla is Sir Enyel Trenoul; a shrewd and stubborn man of forty-eight. Politically the order is split into two main factions
within the kingdom of Melderyn, those who support the Chabla and those who support the clerics. Not surprisingly this divide corresponds
with the shield chapters supporting the clerics and their agenda and the sword chapters and their subordinate manors supporting chabla and
his agenda. The order is also split along regional lines. The many members of the Kaldoric branch would like to see their branch of the
order formed into an order independent from the Lady of Paladins and the Chybisan branch is subdued in its actions due to the dispute
between the three eastern kingdoms over the control of Chybisa.
-
Order of the Spear of Shattered Sorrow
-
The oldest order of the church of Larani on Hârn has confined its activities to eastern Hârn since 622. The order's chief
temple is in Thay; other major temples are in Cherafir and Tashal. The order was founded on Hârn in 465 to provide missionaries to
"spread the faith". The order was sponsored by King Erebir of Melderyn. The Grandmaster of the order and the primate of
Hârn is Kerthede Talvail, a virtuous woman whose major failing is her lack of confidence.

Cundras
Cundras was one of the keeps built by order of King Lodros in 624. In 654 King Etobron granted Cundras and Fosumo keeps to the Laranian
fighting order of the Lady of Paladins. The Council of Eleven was opposed to the action but Etobron, showing uncharacteristic strength
of will, ignored their advice. Cundras is the headquarters of the order. Since 714 the order has been using the two keeps, particularly
Cundras, to stage a vicious "crusade" against the Solori tribesmen in spite of growing opposition within the Church of Larani.
Chundras is the garrison for a sword chapter and has four commanderies subordinate to it.

Fosumo
Fosumo keep was built in 624 atop a rock outcrop that commands the surrounding area and provides an excellent view over the Nuem River.
The keep was granted to the Order of the Lady of Paladins in 654. Fosumo is the garrison for a sword chapter and is commanded by Sir
Selic Orgone, a senior Reblena of the order. He is also responsible for four commanderies which are commanded by more junior Reblena.

Order of the Checkered Shield
-
The order of the Checkered Shield was founded in 622 by Andasin I to guard the northern border of Kanday. The order quickly attracted many
knights and soldiers; which proved instrumental in capturing substantial lands for the young kingdom. The order's headquarters are at
Menekod castle, which it seized from the Agrikan Order of the Copper Hook during Ezar's War. The Checkered Shield is renowned for its
individual and collective military prowess, as well as for its chivalry. There is a deep rooted hostility between the order and the Order
of the Copper Hook, which holds Hyen keep about ten leagues from Menekod. There has been frequent skirmishing between the two orders since
the end of Ezar's war. The present Chabla is Sir Syman Telfane. There is a dispute between him and the sheriff of Norea at Quivum regarding
control of Dovan. Politically the order is split into three factions within the kingdom of Kanday, there are the younger members who wish
to finish the conflict with the Copper Hook, there is the peace contingent who wish to cease all hostilities and then there are the
moderates who try and maintain a balance between the two extremes.
-
Order of Hyvrik
-
The Order of Hyvrik was formally created in 593 when they were granted land in the city of Aleath. The order takes its name from
Larani's legendary red and white checkered shield. The order quickly spread throughout southwestern Hârn King Andasin I, the
first ruler of Kanday, was a devout adherent of Larani and granted the order extensive lands. The Aleath temple is the headquarters of
the order; other major temples are in Coranan and Shiran.

Menekod
Built by the Corani Empire in the fourth century near the site of a Merdi fortification. Arlun of Rethem seized Menekod in 653 and
began the construction of a castle. In 681 King Nemiran granted it to the order of the Copper Hook and it became their primary seat. In
695 Menekod was taken by the army of Kanday in the last major clash of Ezar's War. Mirelael granted the castle to the order of the
Checkered Shield.
